Amazon.com is down!

Posted By Slobodan Kovacevic on August 21, 2006

Just when I wanted to go shopping on Amazon.com it went down! I know it’s not usual that I write about this kind of things, but hey it’s Amazon.com, one of the top 10 properties on the net. The almighty Amazon was one of the sites I thought I’ll never see going offline. It’s 20:50 CET and I can not access neither Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de, Amazon.ca. However, Amazon.co.jp works perfectly. Is it a DDOS attack? Any ideas?

I’m having the same problem. Just went to digg.com to see if anyone knows what’s going on.

It was working fine this morning, so the problem must have just happened within the past couple of hours.

It’s been a while for now. Definitely it very strange that all of their servers are down.

Although it’s interesting to see how they handle error. They could have done this a bit more gracefully, i.e. some meaningful message.

Canada is up and so is France but Germany, UK and US are all still down.
It’s been at least an hour (-06 GMT)

Amazon.com is back now, but amazon.co.uk is still acting strange.

ok they are all back up. I’m wondering if it was a coordinated attack?

I don’t know, we’ll probably know in next couple days what exactly happend.

Meanwhile, I know that there was a coordinated “attack”, or better yet coordinated bury action to bury this story on Digg, even though it was the first one to address Amazon downtime.

today 6.6.2008 again :-)

its down again right now! Is this a new pattern? WT fetch?
